The “in breeding” during Victorian times to keep wealth and supposed “superior genes” within the family resulted in genetic flaws. Hemophelia was one of the most drastic, but there were others like really strange personalities, lazy eyes, etc., from all those double recessives. You need a mongrel or two in the mix to keep things normal.
