A draw. No major knockout on either side. Trump stood up for himself when necessary. I don't think it will move the needle, and Krauthammer made a good observation: Draws usually go to the challenger, and that is Donald Trump.
If I were to advise Trump, it would consist of the following:
1) Complete your sentences. You are giving the audience too much credit for figuring out what you mean when you shoot off two or three words.
2) Stop repeating the same point 5 or 6 times. You are wasting time.
3) Speak less to broad concepts and more to the common man.
4) Affability matters. Reagan won on affability. Smile a little more, but not with that forced weird smile Hillary plastered on most of the debate. Also, an affable Reaganesque "There you go again"-style phrase, queued up and ready to go when appropriate, would work wonders.
5) Next time, don't leave those hanging slow pitches unswatted. For example, when Hillary talks about your charity, mention her Clinton Foundation that only gives out 6% of it's money to charitable works. Also, speak more about how Hillary is the DC Establishment, and you are there to challenge that. Many people will identify that as a key takeaway.
On the whole I give Hillary high marks, and Trump close but not as good. Stylistically Hillary did very well, but in content Trump nailed it a few times.
However, he needs to take a reality check and prepare more in a structured debate setting. Obama had a HORRIBLE first debate and came back strong. Trump wasnt horrible, but he needs to come back strong. I know he can do it.
I heard that as well! Holt said good luck to Clinton, but not to Trump!
Only one fool here is picking a fight. And while he may be your friend he has the stink of troll about him.
LOL thanks. I’m retiring for the night soon. Kill anyone who lies and calls me a Cruzbot. LOL
Luntz had the indies breaking hard for Trump. I think that confirms your point.
Just because some of us are criticizing parts of Trump's performance tonight, and offering suggestions for the next debate does *not* mean we're not on the Trump Train. We're on it... Have no doubt.
He never came across as a bully. She spent a lot of time belittling him and engaging in personal smears. Holt played that angle to some degree as well.
I wish he had responded with more specifics about her shenanigans.
And in light of all the recent focus on her health, I’m waiting for her minions to bring up the numerous times he took drinks of water. Didn’t see her “rehydrate” at all.
Mr. S’SSS and I felt she left a more positive impression than we expected. For viewers who don’t know the truth of who she is, we were concerned. We don’t think Trump lost any supporters tonight but we think she may have influenced some undecideds in her favor. Hopefully, he’ll change that dynamic next time.
Go to bed.
You’re drunk.
Again.
Great post.
Hillary offered nothing concrete to convince people that they should vote for her. Trump spoke about the need for lower taxes, fairer trade, and a more favorable business climate to stop the loss of jobs. No one is buying her argument about lowering taxes on the rich.
Indeed. I didn’t happen to comment on TF’s post, but it was good. Thanks TF.
Trump was being a gentleman and exhibiting self-control when confronted by her bold face lies. He did remind us that she and BO created ISIS. He did confirm that though she has lots of experience, it was all Bad Experience. Furthermore, being a nasty beeotch is not attractive. To anybody.
And if they gave a Pulitzer prize for FReeper articles, I would nominate you!
It was actually an applause line! Well done, Mr. Trump.
But like anyone who writes, I will find detractors, which are evidenced in this very thread.
Unlike other writers, however, I enjoy playing them like a cat might play a chipmunk. X)
Trump missed some solid body blows he could have landed... But on points it was a draw.
But Trump walks away looking reasonable, and that’s all he had to do, so I expect the push polling and gas lighting to tryi to show a Hillary bump, but I see no change to Trumps momentum from thisz
The debate was too fast pace in my opinion, never time to really talk to an issue. There were so many points I would have expected Trump to pounce on, yet he skipped them. I was surprised at his several "I agree with..."
I'm going to watch it again, and maybe again after that once I read more of what others thought.
And again, a moderator that wanted to be a debater. That is probably the worst part of the whole evening.
Agreed. Not a needle-mover.
So are you drunk when you post? Or do you have no excuse for the idiocy?
I did NOT like his answer about gun bans for the Terrorist Watch List
I understand and agree.
The problem is a lack of due process. The NRA's position (IIRC) is that if the government puts you on a no-fly list then that person should have the right to have their day in court to try to get off it.
Right now the feds can slap you on the no-fly list with no explanation and no recourse. The Senate Democrats only want an election issue so they absolutely refused to agree to this reasonable (and constitutionally imperative) amendment. So the bill failed to get out of the Senate and the Democrats got their wedge issue: "Those crazy gun-nut Republicans love their guns more than stopping terrorists!"
Trump believes, like many people, that due process protection is absolutely needed for these lists (on pure constitutional grounds if nothing else), but he didn't explain it very well and just said he sided with the NRA on it.
