Thank you.
I found it disappointing to learn that Orwell was a socialist, but I am convinced that he somehow was never able to make the intellectual leap that socialism IS tyranny which ALWAYS evolves from a good-intentioned do-good, elitist, nanny-state mentality to full blow tyranny with all the fixings such as the Ministry of Truth and the Ministry of Love.
Perhaps because he wrote “1984” in 1949, and was never really privy to the modern criticisms and denouncements of socialism that we have today.
But boy, was he ever spot on when he wrote “1984”. However, he should have put a codicil of some kind in the foreword that “1984” was meant to be a warning, not an instructional manual, which liberals clearly seem to view it as.
Indeed I say the same thing at least once a month” “that 1984 was meant to be a warning, not an instructional manual, which liberals clearly seem to view it as.”
I can’t recall ever hearing that Orwell was a socialist, I never would’ve suspected it considering the tone of 1984 and animal farm.
Perhaps he believed that he was writing about a flawed socialism and that his vision of socialism was of something more pure that had never been attempted correctly.
