To somewhat paraphrase Mark Steyn, you cannot be both a fiscal conservative and a social liberal because eventually your social liberal side will make you spend like a drunken sailor. This is a discussion in which I constantly get into arguments with Libertarians who somehow believe you can separate morality from fiscal policy.
I know they want to believe that, but history doesn't support such a conclusion.
