Well, I guess if you only want to shoot out to 800 yards. The craft has evolved the distinction between designated marksman and long range sniper.

Well, in that case they could also bring back the Kentucky Long Rifle, that was used as a sniper rifle back in history too. Long range firearms technology has advanced a bit since the 'Nam era.
