Forbidding fraud does not a nanny state make. It’s a lefit function of the government.
The Constitution should be enforced above all. Essential to Constitutional rule is due process, even if one accepts that the content of soap is a legitimate concern of the federal government.
(The diktat of the FDA explicitly rules, IIRC, what chemicals are even ALLOWED in the materials—not merely the supposed claims of the companies.)
And toxic crap in products. In the Middle Ages, they had guilds to watch out for bad things in bakers’ bread, etc.
