While in the AF we had the yearly confidence run to check our fitness, you could also walk it if you wanted.

We had had a chain smoker drinking a cup of coffee pass it easily.

That was the norm for the AF in the 70s and 80s....things changed at some point. Its not a cake-walk anymore.

If an AF person gets an "excellent" score on their PT, they do not have to take it for another year. OTOH, Army personnel have to take the PT test every 6 months regardless of their score.

As I like to say, the AF gives time off for good behavior.
