"Millennials like not seeing people," Puzder said. "I've been inside restaurants where we've installed ordering kiosks ... and I've actually seen young people waiting in line to use the kiosk where there's a person standing behind the counter, waiting on nobody."

Could it have something to do with order accuracy??

Or is it that the menu is presented much better on an interactive tablet than on posters behind the counter?

The Panera I go to has six iPads and two registers. I've never seen a line behind the iPads. (The iPads are much neater than McD's clunky monstrosities, by the way.)

Something about Panera's menu seems to cause ordering to take a long time. When I visit, I would never consider ordering from a human if there is even one person ahead of me.

I’m not a millennial and I am not a very social person. If I can avoid dealing with most people, I will ;) When I worked outside the home, I was really good with customers and was always the requested one when it came to getting help and orders. When I go out shopping now I find that customer service is lacking in most places. It’s hard to find good workers and help. God help you if they need to do simple math as well. It’s very frustrating!

Went to a McDonald’s the other day which I almost never do ... it’s probably been 2 years since I last went in one.

Went up to the counter. There was no one else but me and who ever was in the drive thru I guess. Lots of workers behind the counter. No one acknowledged me. They unhurriedly went to and fro ... never said one word or made eye contact with me .... for 20 MINUTES!

20 MINUTES ... I timed it. It was so bizarre. About 10 minutes in a line started to form behind me. Some asked me how long I had been standing there and were astonished when I told them.

A guy back in the line yelled out “Is anyone working here?” (even though you could see at least 10 people behind the counter). One guy finally mosy’d over to take my order and by this time I was so angry I hemmed and hawed and took my time ordering and made all kinds of special requests, changed my mind etc. He got it all in the computer after I had him repeat it back to me a few times. He then said it was time to pay. I s-l-o-w-l-y got out my card after digging in purse for a while. Then I said I wasn’t sure I should pay I might need some time to think about it, like maybe 20 MINUTES or so. He gave me a blank stare, I don’t think he understood what I said. Some people behind me chuckled.

Stood there a long time staring at him until the people behind me started getting grumbly. Then I ran my card but put in the wrong PIN about 3 times ... trying to decide if I was going to walk out or not. By this time my food was made and delivered to the counter so I looked it over real carefully making sure it was correct and asked for more of this and that. Finally I paid and left.

I figured I used up about 10 minutes of his time so that plus the 20 MINUTES I waited without so much as eye contact or “I’ll be right with you” that was 30 minutes for one order. And It might have been even longer if the guy in the line hadn’t yelled out.

Fast food my @ss. I won’t be going back. Ever.

Maybye millenials have the right idea on this score.

The last two times I entered my bank to get help, I walked right up to the customer service desk (not the teller: they just handle simple transactions). I’m a customer and I needed help doing something, I went to customer service (of course).

Both times was the same response: “You should use our mobile app. The mobile app does that. Have you used the mobile app? The mobile app is the best way to do that. It’s very efficient. Mobile app.”

My spoken response: “I don’t have a smart phone.”
Their response: “I can’t help you.”

My unspoken response: “The bank needs to fire you and replace you with a tape recorder which says: “You should use our mobile app. The mobile app does that. Have you used the mobile app? The mobile app is the best way to do that. It’s very efficient. Mobile app.”

So much cheaper.

I’m ‘gen x’ and I agree. I don’t even buy gas in NJ. I was glad when ATT got automated operators in the 80’s so I “wouldn’t deal with humans.”

The problem is that so many of these so called millennials are narcissists. They truly believe that they are better than everyone else, and therefore shouldn’t be bothered with speaking with anyone unless they need something.

I only deal with clerks if they’re cute or hot, but if not, FU I;m heading to the machine.
