Youthful foolishness makes tolerance a virtue I am unable to hold to. These so called millennial’s need a good cuff across their heads and a swift kick to their rear-ends and this pathetic attitude is a direct result of the ‘It takes a village’ mentality their liberalized parents adopted from the likes of Hillary Clinton.

I’m just the opposite - dumb or normal, I prefer to deal with a human and not the self-chckouts (swindle) or ATMS or any of the other robocrap.

I constantly have clerks coming up to me in grocery stores telling me I can use the self-serve instead of waiting in line. I told her I’d rather talk to a human, and anyway I won’t contribute to putting people out of work. She said I was putting her out. I told her she was running six stations, so five people bit the dust because of her.

I’m retired now and on the computer most of the day, surfing the world and enjoy a little banter with a human - even a teen.

Why would you post a link to Yahoo, when the full story appears elsewhere? How much YHOO do you own?

I felt that way until I left a large metro area for a town of 600. Kids here hold doors for older people, say excuse me and yes, sir, yes ma’am when warranted and for the most part are great.

The adults seem happier, more relaxed and more talkative than city people.

No social skills whatsoever.

They’re busy with their noses buried in their phones.

The biggest problem I’ve found with drive-thru’s and even over the counter fast food places is language

kyā bole?

[I am not a millennial (Generation X), and I have an aversion to dealing with people but it is a selective aversion.]

I agree to an extent. Lotta stupid people out there that I can’t waste time with. But, I do like human interaction otherwise.

"Millennials like not seeing people," Puzder said. "I've been inside restaurants where we've installed ordering kiosks ... and I've actually seen young people waiting in line to use the kiosk where there's a person standing behind the counter, waiting on nobody."

Could it have something to do with order accuracy??

Or is it that the menu is presented much better on an interactive tablet than on posters behind the counter?

The Panera I go to has six iPads and two registers. I've never seen a line behind the iPads. (The iPads are much neater than McD's clunky monstrosities, by the way.)

Something about Panera's menu seems to cause ordering to take a long time. When I visit, I would never consider ordering from a human if there is even one person ahead of me.

Some here at FR don’t like Business Insider. It’s the cookies or whatever. I use an ad blocker, but many here don’t.

Yahoo had the intro to the story at BI. That’s all many here would read anyway, is the intro.

I’m not a millennial and I am not a very social person. If I can avoid dealing with most people, I will ;) When I worked outside the home, I was really good with customers and was always the requested one when it came to getting help and orders. When I go out shopping now I find that customer service is lacking in most places. It’s hard to find good workers and help. God help you if they need to do simple math as well. It’s very frustrating!

I'm 57 years old and run a one man machine shop. Utilize computerized equipment to avoid employees, and often times go days without talking to anyone but my wife.

Yeah, but you are busy cussing the guy who screwed something up big-time. :)

My young son is a machinist. I'm sure he'd like to be on his own. Some day.

I’ve been in the business world, and can’t help but notice how many attractive young girls work as front desk or receptionist type jobs when you visit someone’s office.

And I’m sure its no accident; that companies want to have appealing attractive people interacting with their customers.

Went to a McDonald’s the other day which I almost never do ... it’s probably been 2 years since I last went in one.

Went up to the counter. There was no one else but me and who ever was in the drive thru I guess. Lots of workers behind the counter. No one acknowledged me. They unhurriedly went to and fro ... never said one word or made eye contact with me .... for 20 MINUTES!

20 MINUTES ... I timed it. It was so bizarre. About 10 minutes in a line started to form behind me. Some asked me how long I had been standing there and were astonished when I told them.

A guy back in the line yelled out “Is anyone working here?” (even though you could see at least 10 people behind the counter). One guy finally mosy’d over to take my order and by this time I was so angry I hemmed and hawed and took my time ordering and made all kinds of special requests, changed my mind etc. He got it all in the computer after I had him repeat it back to me a few times. He then said it was time to pay. I s-l-o-w-l-y got out my card after digging in purse for a while. Then I said I wasn’t sure I should pay I might need some time to think about it, like maybe 20 MINUTES or so. He gave me a blank stare, I don’t think he understood what I said. Some people behind me chuckled.

Stood there a long time staring at him until the people behind me started getting grumbly. Then I ran my card but put in the wrong PIN about 3 times ... trying to decide if I was going to walk out or not. By this time my food was made and delivered to the counter so I looked it over real carefully making sure it was correct and asked for more of this and that. Finally I paid and left.

I figured I used up about 10 minutes of his time so that plus the 20 MINUTES I waited without so much as eye contact or “I’ll be right with you” that was 30 minutes for one order. And It might have been even longer if the guy in the line hadn’t yelled out.

Fast food my @ss. I won’t be going back. Ever.

Maybye millenials have the right idea on this score.

I am your age, and I telecommute (work with computers, enterprise infrastructure-type work). Have been doing it for years now. There will be weeks when the only time I get off our property is a short trip to buy gas for the mowers and trimmers.

I love it, but like you, I think it would have been hard to do when I was younger.
