More than one million people contract a sexually transmitted infection (STI) every single day, WHO medical officer Teodora Wi said. Until recently, the three diseases, which are all caused by bacteria, had been fairly easy to treat using antibiotics, but increasingly those drugs are failing, WHO said.
"Resistance of these STIs to the effect of antibiotics has increased rapidly in recent years and has reduced treatment options," the UN agency said. Resistance is caused, among other things, by doctors overprescribing antibiotics, and patients not taking the correct doses
For gonorrhoea for instance, WHO recommends that health authorities study local resistance patterns and advise doctors to prescribe the most effective antibiotic with the least resistance.
For syphilis, meanwhile, WHO recommended a specific antibioticbenzathine penicillinthat is injected into the buttock or thigh muscle.
Back to mercury and arsenic?
Shift in STD treatment due to antibiotic resistance
A good reason not to sleep around.
I don't know, you tell me.
Remember celibacy?
Anyone who contracts these diseases ultimately can only blame their own promiscuity!
Abstinence is looking better and better...
I did a search of “syphilis” a few weeks ago and the image on Wikipedia was something that I wish I had never seen. Words cannot convey the hideousness of this disease.
How many people contract one less often?
All the world’s slutbags like Bill Clinton have spread so many STDs that we are losing effective antibiotics. Great!
Someone should ask Shrillarity her postion on STDs.
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
