Plus I have Muslim friends --- a lovely young Albanian graduate student and her mom --- who don't want me dead.

This may be inconsistent with most historic interpretations of the Koran and the Hadith, but I observe that a hefty percentage of people in this world are, thank God, inconsistent.

Thank, God, they fail to live down to the worst tenets of their political or religious "faith".
