I do not understand why companies pick sides in these culture wars. How can pissing off a portion of your customer base be a good thing from a business perspective? As a shareholder, Id be furious with the fools running these companies. Agree completely, and I've often wondered the same thing.
I remember one of their statements from when this started, they think it's some kind of bold and noble 1960s civil-rights stand.

Don’t they have someone on staff who looks at social justice issues? I think a lot of companies do that. Back in the 80s, the foundation I worked for hired someone to keep track of trends in ‘social justice’. It’s one thing in a Foundation that purposely gives out money; but for a retailer it seems like suicide!
