As a senior in high school I had my biggest celebrity meeting day. I was a reporter for the school newspaper. Two of us were sent to downtown Chicago for a press conference for a couple guys who were starting a new tv variety show— the Smothers Brothers. Small crowd, everyone got to talk to them. We had to write a preview of the show for the paper. We observed they seemed nervous and we thought somewhat rude. As we were leaving, we were waiting for the elevator. It opened and Ted Kennedy was standing in front of us. It was 1966-67, so he looked young and handsome. He smiled at the two of us and said hello. Met Laura Bush during the 2000 campaign. GW was appearing on the Oprah show. I was with a group in an annex where Laura watched. She was very nice in a reserved sort of way.
