I went to school with a guy named Beverly, but he used Bevo as a nickname. Cool guy.
Anyone remember the great sportswriter from the Washington Post, Shirley Povich?
He once explained that Shirley was a common man’s name in Maine, where he grew up. He was born in 1905 in Maine. So apparently it was common at that time and place.
