We have friends who have a new granddaughter named Charlie. Simply, Charlie. My question is why?

Charley can be used as a nickname for Charlotte. My wife was named Charlotte and her relatives called her Charley. As for a female being given the name Charley....well that is where we are. The inmates are now running the asylum.
