I tried that years ago. Within a short time, I was back with Earthlink. The guy at the post office said to me, "Oh, another Verizon modem getting mailed back?" He said he saw many people sending their Verizon modem back to Verizon and finding another provider.
When it’s working Verizon is okay for our needs - fast enough for most of what we do, although Directv sends me messages saying something like “your internet speed is not fast enough for this service” when I try to start their play-from-the-beginning-of-the-program feature - expected the same problem when we got a Samsung Smart TV last Christmas, but have been pleasantly surprised by how fast movies loaded through their processor - since our only other realistic choice at this point is the hated Comcast, I guess we’ll keep limping along as we are for awhile....
