I’ve read that most of our supermarkets carry fresh (? - ha!) garlic, from China. :(

Approximately 25 years ago there was a TV show about tomato growing in Mexico.

I have not bought a single tomato from Mexico since then.

Not one.

When eating out I avoid tomatoes.

How is shipping garlic all the way from China profitable? Some government incentive?

I’m guessing my grandmother planted garlic around some trees in our yard many decades ago so I don’t have the need to buy it. It keeps coming back year after year with no care whatsoever.

If Americans wouldn’t waste so much food, we wouldn’t need to import it. Look at how many school lunches get trashed. Look at how much goes out from restaurants. Our grocery store used to set soon to expire items or old produce outside for anyone to take home for free so it wouldn’t be wasted. Of course, the government put a stop to that. After that, they’d still give the old bread to the nursing home which would set it out for anyone to get. Nope, can’t do that anymore, either. Walmart used to put their old baked goods on a clearance rack but they don’t do that anymore so guess all that goes to the garbage. And then there’s the household wasted food. It’s ridiculous. Might as well throw money out the window. Nothing is tossed here. It’s eaten or composted.
