I'm going to take exception to your statement that Southern Hospitality isn't genuine, and I'm from up North as well, but I've been in the South since the 80s. Southerners are tired of people coming down here and sneering at them because they have different priorities. If you get in trouble, you want to be living in a Southern state, as people will go out of their way to help you. We have a lot of wealthy Yankees moving here to retire (Eastern NC). During one of the hurricanes a local man I know went out in the eye of the hurricane to adjust the ropes on his rich (absent) neighbors’ boats so they wouldn't be pulled under by the rising water. That's genuine hospitality my friend, and we see it every day here.
