Bless her for trying, but I think this outcome is going to be the best thing for all involved. These are very high standards and I’m not sure I could meet them myself. Semper Fi, young lady, and thank you for your service.
Marines are called GRUNTS for a reason; any job in the 03 designation is difficult to say the least.
Long hours (or days), little rest, lots of weight, lots of boot leather miles, short rations, really ugly situations.
To be a good GRUNT you have to be born 1/2 man, 1/2 mule.
I did my first tour as an 0311, (got smart quick).
Did my second tour as a 0844, (yes, I am more intelligent than I let on).
There are plenty of important and responsible positions in The Corps for women; 01, 02, 04, 06, 26, and 27 just to name a few.
These jobs don’t normally involve a lot of hill humping with a 120 pound ammo pack or close combat.
Should women serve, ABSOLUTELY.
Should women serve in frontline combat positions, ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Met a lot of Woman Marines while I was in; even dated a few, they were good at their jobs or they wouldn’t have been Marines.
Let them do what they want; just don’t put them in my fighting hole next to me.
