I have a beautiful Maine Coon, but she is FAT (can’t get her to lose weight! Vet says nothing wrong with thyroid). Anyone else have this problem. She’s old now, but she’s always been obese.

We think one of our cats is part Maine Coon and she is a fatty compared to the other two. The vet suggested diet food (which she won't touch)...but we read that just switching to wet cat food should do the trick. It hasn't worked and she's been eating wet food consistently for about six months now. If anything I think she's gaining.

Anyone else have this problem.

Break her back leg, it worked on my cat.

Seriously tho, when I adopted my cat she was morbidly obese and weighed in at 15 lbs. One night she attempted to jump up on the bed but didn't make it and she fell back and broke her leg. Surgery was require and a rod was inserted in the leg to hold it and a piece that had broken off, in place while it healed.

I put her on a diet of Hill Prescription Diet cat food ever since and she's now at about 11 lbs........She's still just a little tubby but has been healthy her entire life with only one trip to the vet for an eye infection.

As a side note, since she's an indoor cat that doesn't like to go outside, I don't have to get her shots.

Our Maine coon is trim under her ball of fluff. She gets 2 small cans of healthy cat food a day. There is no healthy cat food at grocery stores and kibble is always unhealthy. Weruva is a great brand and not bad cost wise. She’s 12.

Unlike others mentioned here, she was a terrible hunter when we used to let her go outside. At the time our other cat was a rescue who was spayed so early that all the other kittens in her litter died. Rescue people spay at a dangerous age sometimes. And that cat killed everything she found. Hummingbirds, lizards, huge birds, rodents, butterflies, you name it. Popoki had trouble catching a spider. But she is beautiful! (Pic above)
