And if we study actual cases of insanity, we can see how they are frequently actually punctuated with lucidity. It is seldom all insanity all the time.

Can you wrap your head around the idea that God permitting this is a PUNISHMENT? But not an arbitrary punishment, but one tailored to teaching a soul.

"We"?? Who is this "we" you speak of? Are you a clinical psychologist? If that is so, then you missed your courses on insanity.
Insanity is a chemical imbalance of the brain and if some poor souls are genuinely insane, they are so all the time, WITH periods of mania AND depression.
Their brain had that infirmity from the moment of inception.

I also STRONGLY disagree that their insanity is ANY kind of punishment for them OR their family. That kind of thinking is as archaic as it is wrong. I don't even BEGIN to know God's plan or why He creates souls the way He does but He is a God who loves all of His creations.

But YOU seem to know God's thinking and plans...and you actually believe, poor soul that you are, that our good Lord creates insanity in people as a PUNISHMENT, one that is "tailored" to teaching a soul.

God help you.
