Bless both of you-most people don’t know that feral cats can become the best pets ever-one of my kitties-all shelter cats-was found in the woods and brought to the shelter-she was at least 2 years old, but very small and very skittish and wild. Since I’d fostered cats before for them, the shelter manager asked me to foster because of my 2 laid back cats and my cat-loving Husky-all were hoping that after she calmed down a bit she could get a home with a quiet single person who didn’t have a lot of animals or commotion going on. A couple of weeks after I got her, she started playing with my two cats and my Husky, coming to meet me at the door with all three of them after work when they heard my truck drive up to the gate-and she started sleeping on the bed at night with me-and them.

Done deal-I paid the adoption fee myself and kept her-now Midget girl is a lap cat and despite being small-6 lbs, she is a very good mouser-she is still a fraidy cat with loud noises, but after spending her first couple of years in the woods, I can see why...

When we trapped the three babies, had them “fixed”, got their shots, etc., a lady who works with feral cats told us, “You’ll never tame those kittens.” Well, they turned out to be the sweetest, most loving, clingy lap cats we’ve ever had. (One became very ill with seizures — the sweetest of them all — and he’s waiting for us at Rainbow Bridge. It’s been three years, and I still cry for him.)

A year later, we brought in their mother who still is quite wild. She’s very sweet, “talks” up a storm, and loves to be petted — with one hand only. If she sees that other hand make an appearance, she’s gone.

We had two rescues before these. Now we have six indoor-only cats, and they all get along.
