To: Dirt for sale
Sunflowers got devoured by bugs, whatever, I would prefer native flowers that are tough.

I'm not sure where you're located, but sunflowers are native to the Americas. Some of the modern varieties have been "improved" to where they can't take care of themselves, though.

I'd suggest looking for an older variety. Maybe Hopi Black Dye?

Located in NC, thanks for the tip. The variety I tried was Giant Grey Stripe, and it failed to the point of the plants turning away from the sun.

one of my sunflowers somehow got its head eaten by the youknowwhats....deer can be tricky....the plant was inside a tall fence about 2 feet but they reached in and got it anyway...

last year I had only one sunflower survive and it was destroyed when some bird landed on its head and broke it off....ugh...
