Totally different times and scenario's - Cruz cannot creat a Reagan "moment", he is only slitting his own political throat.

Vice President Gerald Ford inherited the presidency but was a weakened candidate after he pardoned Nixon in September 1974. It was in this context that Reagan challenged Ford for the Republican nomination in 1976. Ford entered the race with the endorsement of almost the entire party political establishment—Paul Laxalt of Nevada, a longtime friend of Reagan, was the only U.S. senator to back him against Ford.

Cruz is too arrogant and delusional to realize he can’t get elected dog catcher without Trump’s supporters.

Perhaps why Trump did not put conditions on his speech. Just making sure to hand him a very sharp knife indeed.
