MULTAN, Pakistan, July 17 (UPI) -- The brother of Pakistani model Qandeel Baloch admitted Saturday to killing her for dishonoring his family with racy online photos.

Police say Waseem Azeem, one of the model's six brothers, drugged and strangled her as she slept, USA Today reported.

Wazeem, accompanied by police at a news conference on Saturday, confessed to the killing, saying she "brought dishonor to the Baloch name."

"There were other issues as well..." Azeem said, referencing a controversy surrounding Baloch's selfies with a Muslim cleric, the Times of India reported..

Azeem said he was often taunted by others because of his sister's conduct and that he had told her to stop posting on social media, where she had gained thousands of fans.

Honor killings, which often involve women being killed for "dishonoring their families," have been on the rise in Pakistan. Human Rights Commission of Pakistan reported 1,096 women were killed in "honor crimes" in 2015.

Baloch was buried Sunday in her ancestral village in Dera Ghazi, abplive reported. The funeral reportedly had a large attendance.
