I used to buy the Harvey Milk as a martyr as a true story. After reading more on this, I found out that he wasn’t a target but a victim of being in exactly the wrong place at the wrong time like actor Vic Morrow. Dan White’s target was SF mayor George Moscone. White didn’t dislike Milk. Had Milk came on the scene a little later, he might still be alive.
White was planning on shooting at least 4 people (Moscone, Milk, Assemblyman and future Speaker and future Mayor Willie Brown and Supervisor Carol Ruth Silver). By the time of the killings, White pretty much did hate Milk, because he knew Milk had largely persuaded Mayor Moscone not to let White back on the BoS.
