Prosecutors in Colorado cleared a sheriffs deputy in an officer-involved shooting that included a shot right down the barrel of an attempted robbers pistol.
Deputy Jose Marquez was cleared by Arapahoe County prosecutors Wednesday for his role in a shooting that took place in January. As reported by the Aurora Sentinel, Marquez was off-duty and visiting his girlfriend when he was shot in both the abdomen and shoulder during a gunfight with two robbery suspects in an apartment parking lot.
Marquez, who was in civilian clothes at the time, was confronted by the two armed men who opened fire first. Returning fire, the deputy injured Jhalil Meshesha who was later arrested.
Mesheshas gun, a Springfield XD, was disabled during the exchange of fire by one of Marquezs bullets after it remarkably traveled down the barrel from muzzle to chamber and jammed the action in what officials call a one in a billion shot.
Marquez is still recovering from his wounds and the second, unidentified suspect, is at large.

That’s what I call gun control.
5.56mm
No kidding.
"OMG, why didn't he just wound him?"
Must not have seen that episode :-)
Improbable for sure. It looks like the XD round is a .45? If the cops was a 9 mm that might figure.
Does a cop disabling your gun qualify you as “unarmed”?
wonder why he was even investigated in the first place, much less taking 6 months to clear him.
I can do that with a .308, the right scope and a tripod but not on the fly like he dis.I say, HE did.
It was determined that one of the shots that Deputy Marquez fired from his .45 caliber handgun actually hit Mesheshas .40 caliber handgun and traveled down the barrel. (Courtesy 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office)
Done this about 100 times. It’s an easy shot.
Yeah, but shooting your 22 down a ten-gauge is a bit easier.

Okay - that seems like a real trick! I suppose the bullet deformed to squeeze in there - but still....
Hmmm. I wonder if the cop dips his rounds in bacon grease beforehand?
That guy should buy a lotto ticket today.
It's usually "why didn't he just wing him?"
It happened before about 125 or so years ago and was reported in RIPLEY’S BELIEVE IT OR NOT.
....Not even the Lone Ranger could have made that shot..
IIRC, As a kid I saw the Lone Ranger do this quite often. And that was after his mask skipped down and covered his dominant eye.
Kind of weird that I just spent my day today at Silver Eagle Group gun range in Northern Virginia in one-on-one pistol training with....Steve Marquez, the owner...! (same last name as cop in the story, eh) then I get home and see this, eh
I am working on the math. I suspect odd of much less than a billion to one.
They took Laz’s 22 away too after the “incident.”
