Given the rumors that are flying around about 'changing the rules' at the GOP convention so as to prevent Donald Trump from being the Republican nominee, I think some thought should be given to the potential collateral damage to the Republican Party's efforts in November.
First, I'll state the obvious - if Trump is denied his position on the ballot in 2016, I simply will not vote for president - and I suspect that holds for many, probably a majority of Trump supporters.
So Romney, Ryan, or whoever replaces him will simply have to find another pool of millions of voters to push them over the top, and I'll give them a hit - IT DOESN'T EXIST. The only pool of voters they'll find is the 10,000 or so GOP insiders that can't stand Trump crashing their little conclave. The millions of us that took the time and made the effort to go out and vote, we'll simply will NOT VOTE for this new candidate.
Now I assume the above is already obvious to the GOP Leaders, so it's time to add a bit more to the mix. Do not, for a minute, think that us Trump voters have some great love for the GOP. WE DO NOT. We've been asking for a candidate to secure our borders (and that includes terrorist immigration) for over a decade, and all we get are Open Borders types and back-room scheming to try to get Amnesty through - the same Amnesty that is even opposed by a (albeit slim) majority of Democrats. The only people 'extreme' on this issue are the ones (in both parties) that will not let go of this push.
So here's what happens if we do not see Trump on the ticket - you Republican SENATORS, CONGRESSMEN, and CANDIDATES are going down with him. We will not vote for a party that denies its own voters their choice of a candidate...THAT SIMPLE.
So you guys, if you want, can continue your scheming to try to figure out a way to keep Trump off the November ballot - but if you do, be prepared to LOSE YOUR SEATS too, and watch the GOP end up with as much power nationally as it now has in California...a fate deserving of them if they try this stunt.
And you cannot say you weren't warned, for this is YOUR WARNING.
“After this election...Im finished with the GOP. Their true traitor colors fly high and clear.”
If Trump does win, then let’s give him a chance and see what the Republican Party then looks like - it may be very, very, different than it is now.
“What about SCOTUS? They will liberal for decades.”
One thing that has to be obvious, even to the idiots that run the GOP, is that whoever takes Trump’s place is destined to lose in November - and Hillary is the next president. With that, the Supreme Court is simply toast
The above is a given, as there is obviously no way that Romney or Ryan will ever see anything but a tiny fraction of Trump’s supporters, which is at least half of the GOP base, at this point.
So the Supreme Court is GONE if Trump is replaced. I suspect the GOPe doesn’t even care about that.
“You are preaching to the choir. Tell this to the RNC.”
Be serious - does ANYONE here think that the RNC would listen to a no-name FReeper, any of us?
But, although they may not like us and think much of us, they still NEED OUR VOTES, and they (or their staffers) do come to this site, in order to gauge just how restless the natives are.
So it’s me with my grandiose threats to them that matter - it is the DOZENS OF FREEPERS that respond that may get their attention. We may not be liked very much by elected Republicans (after all, we have the nerve to hold them to their word), but they do need our votes.
...and if our votes won’t be there FOR THEM with Trump replaced, then I suspect they’ll think VERY HARD before allowing that.
Romney is slicker than snot and so are his pals ( people like Orrin Hatch).
Sadly, ballots with write-ins often are tossed aside like garbage and never read, much less tallied. At least that was my experience when I worked elections in the ‘80s.
I've seen those Mother Teresa like ads for Hillary...Gag me with a spoon
I have to say Rush is wrong here, those ads aren't about Trump at all, so I don't see how they would drive his numbers down enough to impact the convention ...
The Hillary ads simply are designed to get her unfavorable ratings down...
Hillary loves children, works tirelessly for them except when before they are born...
I’m not saying it’s happening. I’m also definitely not saying that Romney is doing it.
If it is happening it is coming from Trump people... probably through sympathizers who have past ties to Romney.
The ones most offended by the fact that Trump did not pay his party dues, get in line and wait his turn. That was always their primary objection to his candidacy.
In the mean time, a third party is in the works for later. The Republican and Democrat Parties are going the way of the horse and buggy.
