SHOWLOW is pronounced ShowLow. At least it was two weeks ago the last time I was there.
the name came from a poker hand between two guys that settled the town. After a falling out, they decided to cut cards to see who went and who stayed. LOSER got the town. Hence the name SHOW LOW.
Since the author decided to take the “tiny six-passenger plane” to Showlow instead of just coming into Phoenix Sky Harbor and rented a car like normal folks. I kinda figure her vomiting is her way of teling lus how far out in the sticks
Showlow and Snowflake are. They ain’t. It is a pretty good hoof out to them, but Arizona ain’t Alaska. US60 to Showlow and SR71 to Snowflake. Both paved and speed limits from 55 to 70. 3 hour drive if memory serves. 4 max. And it is a beautiful trip.

You are one of only a handful of people who know that. I was in ShowLow many years back when we were surveying the area. A great factoid of that area is that Doc Holiday and Wyatt Earp surveyed that area. Our survey chief made copies of the plat that Earp signed off.
