If your card is one of the newer ones with an embedded micro-chip, it is possible that someone scanned your card while it was still in your wallet. That is the new trend in credit card/ATM Card theft.

The only defense is to either get a shielded/RF-proof wallet, or ask your bank for RF blocker sleeves for your chip enabled cards.

And the banks said the new cards would be safer...pffft.

Yes, it is a chip card, so that is a possibility. I do carry it, but never use it from outside the house... not even sure why I carry it around.

I agree that the "chip and sign" is stupid... and pretty much worthless as a security measure. They should have gone to the "chip and pin" method instead.

Since debit cards are also Visa cards, all someone needs is the number and expiration date to use it.
