I’m sort of mystified as to how structures that aren’t really that old in the greater scheme of things end up buried, built over and forgotten. There are structures not far from me dating to that era, and they’re pretty much as they were when they were built as far as ground level. Did they pile up garbage around the site, did the foundation sink? It’s just strange.

Good question. I was actually wondering the same thing. How did something only 300 years old end up 10’ under ground?
