Anyone know how to filter Free Republic using keywords? There are some topics and articles I never want to see.
Programming to filter out something is actually quite problematic. Try using Google Advanced Search where you can exclude keywords and see what messy results you get. And just try putting -Obama (that is, minus Obama) in the keyword search on FR; the results will still include all the times people have written something like “Clinton-Obama conspiracy”.
Alternatively, send me a list complete list of all the topics you never want to see. Forward $500 in bitcoins every day and I will reply with a filtered list of articles to meet your requirements.
;-)
From my About page, hope this helps...
Did you know that you can control the content, arrangement, quantity, and color of what you see on your main FR page?
Just click on the words "Configure Sidebar" found at the bottom right hand side of the main Forum page under the 'sidebar'. This takes you to "My Page Layout" where you can choose your personal preferences. :)
You can also add a list of articles to your main FR page for any Topic or Keyword that is found on FR. Use this example for any Topic or Keyword (they are found just beneath each article that is posted on FR) The Keyword "banglist" is added to most all of the articles about gun rights, you can have a list of them appear on your main FR page. O.K. How to do that...
Go to the list of Keywords on the main Forum page and click on "banglist"...on the resulting page go to near the bottom of the page, on the right side, and click on "Add to My Page".
Then go to this page: Manage Blocks ...look for the line Keyword: banglist and choose the location where you would like a list of banglist articles to be displayed on your main FR page. When finished choosing, click the modify button at the bottom of the page.
You can change it back or further modify it anytime on the My Page Layout page, just click Account at the top of your main FR page...then click Manage Blocks.

Focused like a LASER!
Are you a Progressive college student demanding a safe space on FR?
Unplugging your computer is the easiest way to do it.
Out of extreme curiosity though, what type of articles are you trying to avoid?
I understand trying to hide from Lazamataz . . . but other than that?
You must be one of the new affirmative action members of FR and missed the orientation meeting that would have explained the filtering processes.
First and foremost, was your tuition fee waived or added to your student loan? If it was waived go to the diversity office for one syllable instructions.
If your fee was added to your student loan your SAT scores are too low for your continued membership in FR. Please go to the Bursar’s office for a refund. We wish you every success in your future web browsing.
I would hate that. For example if you and I debate forcefully on a topic to the point we can’t stand to see another reply from each other......but then a week later we get into a thread where we agree AND you even provide information that I didn’t know, it would be a shame to miss that info. I think it’s better this way for better and worse.
Well if you can block someone you can also unblock too after awhile.
Well that is true.
Go to every article that doesn’t offend you and insert the keyword “thisisok.”
Then do a keyword search for the keyword “thisisok.”
Voila.
Problem solved.
Until the cutups on FR figured out keyword then every article would have “this”
I actually tend not to remember people i have had args with unless they are real bastards like, all the time. Some are just out here to fight with anyone and everyone.
Usually just not that good remembering screen names. I just post if the comment strikes me.
I kind of do the same thing. Half the time I don’t know what I replied. I have to go back through a thread to see what the fuss is.
Is this the Ted Danson thread? Am I too late?
It’s working with the pit bull apologists, lol.
Instead of browsing Everything, just browse Religion and Smoky Backroom threads (see sidebar) and you should be able to avoid controversial posts.
Did you ever get any good advice?
