I used to rideshare with an ex-Airforce guy. He was creepy. Very much a "just follow orders" type of guy. We had a discussion about some hypothetical situation and his answer was to just follow whatever orders came down to him even if they were immoral. That was the military way.
The rest of the vanpool was creeped out by his response.

That was the military way.I wonder if that's because they're more removed from the act of war than the Army, Navy, Marines, and even the Coast Guard. I suspect that breeds a culture of "just follow orders" more than in other branches, because the incompetence of a superior officer doesn't put them in quite the same danger as it does in the other branches. But I've never served in any branch of the military, so that perception is based on my possibly flawed understanding of how things work, I admit. I'd be interested in the comments of those who have served in the military.
