Had their been a sign warning people of the danger of alligators, on a "beach" covered with lounge chairs where people gather every day to nap and at night to watch fireworks, this unfortunate child would be alive today and the lives of his parents wouldn't have been destroyed. You know, the same kind of sign that is in place next to fresh water in ever single state and county park in Florida. We have lots of tourists here in Florida and many of them are just like we were when we moved here 22 years ago and are oblivious to the potential danger in any fresh water.
Disney certainly had a duty to make their guests, from all over the world, aware of this potential danger. That duty is even more obvious after a family from France almost lost their young daughter a week earlier to a gator attack in the same area. From what I read, Disney if finally going to do what it should have done a long time ago....or at least a week ago. I'm sure that won't stop smug comments from those with profound superiority complexes who don't know the difference between wading and swimming. Meanwhile, it's too little, too late for that poor kid and his parents who will never be normal again.

After reading your post I find it astonishing that Orlando didn’t monitor Disney better and require the necessary signage.
An unnecessary tragedy.

And in Maine, they provide Adirondack chairs while sitting near the No Swimming signs. Here at the Jersey Shore, those signs go up in rough tides.
