The Take This Job and Shove It singer has been ordered to pay the IRS more than $980,000 after pleading guilty to tax evasion and failing to pay $466,000 in back taxes, interest and penalties, prosecutors said.
Coe, 76, was also sentenced Monday in Cincinnati federal court to three years probation.
Federal prosecutors said the singer played more than 100 concerts a year between 2008 and 2013, but asked to be paid in cash to avoid paying Uncle Sam.

May as well. It’ll probably rain, and trains are dangerous.
The only Coe songs I know are from his Underground Album put out in the early 80’s. Never laughed so hard in my life ;)
Coe. You have to know you will get caught playing that game.
How bout people older then 65 dont gotta pay income taxes,
I live within my means, and do just fine.
Geeez, he’s 76??
Btw
Coe already was a convicted felon
Did prison time in Texas or Ohio.
A long bit in juvee and adult
Johnny Paycheck sang the song, David Allan Coe wrote the song.
Don't put me in jail boys
if I make a little noise, just leave me alone...
Lots of artists get in tax problems
Taxes can be complicated....what can really mess one up is valuations when the govt overvalued
Waylon had similar issues....Willie too
I met Coe once at Waylon’s office...a huge scary man....he needed a loan...had two young hot women with him though
Funny how many Texas country sorts are actually Yankee born and reared
Coe and Jerry Jeff come to mind and boy Jerry sure sings southern sounding doesn’t he?
I like much of Coe work but I wouldn’t mess with him
Start adding up everything your taxes go to that doesn’t work, like public schools and ICE. Not to mention lois lerner. And he can ask to be cell mates with sharp ton.
Wasn’t it Jerry Jeff Walker that wrote “Up Against The Wall You Redneck Mother “ ?
And you'll be driving your mama in your truck in the rain.
Yeah! After paying our whole lives why do we have to wait until death to stop? You want to live below taxable? Not me.
No way. She got runned over last time. Damned old trains!
Taxes aren’t complicated. Trying to avoid them is complicated. But getting paid in cash because he thinks the IRS won’t figure it out is ignorant. The venues are expensing those concerts so the IRS knows about them.
Better yet, he turns in expenses for the concerts but doesn’t show any revenue. The IRS will pick up on that as well.
And they will bide their time knowing they will eventually get him. Meanwhile, he is sitting around fat, dumb and happy until it is time to pay the lawyers.
Yeah right. Everyone who tried that scam got busted.
If IRS would release a listing suspect we would find that at least half of the DC employees have never paid or are behind on their Federal tax.
Johnny Paycheck covered "Take This Job and Shove It".
