My observation is that most (not all) people don’t do anything until they have to. Sadly too true of me.
But you cited the founding fathers who gave up wealth, power and position for the sake of liberty. I would propose that they had already lost these things before they went to battle.
Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose? (you know the source for that right?)
With that said, what is the difference between freedom and liberty?
