It started more as a symbiotic relationship in Egypt. The ancestors of domestic cats, the African wild cat discovered that Egyptian granaries were a good source of hunting for rodents. The Egyptians in turn discovered that the cats kept their granaries free of vermin that ate their grain and caused disease. That’s why cats still consider themselves our equals.
