Many “christian” artists just couldn’t hack it in the secular music world, so they become “Christian”.
Thus PDs back in the day having ‘JPMs’ or Jesuses per minute as a criteria for what songs they put into heavy rotation. Heavy JPMs, the better chance a Christian looking for this music on the radio will stay despite it being utter drek. Say Jesus enough and a certain % will stick.

I can't help but notice how often the quality (if you can decipher "quality" in rock music) of Christian rock music is often wanting, bolstering your argument. Very little originality or interest.
