Nine mph over the limit in a residential area? Original ticket was under $80 but he insisted on a jury trial? He is lucky he “didn’t hurt anyone”. He needs to slow down, IMHO.

Yep. 9 over in a residential area. Someone could’ve backed out of a driveway, a kid could’ve come running out from behind a parked car, dog/cat could’ve run across the street … any number of things that could have changed the entire outcome. There’s no reason to be driving that fast in a residential area.

Right: that typically means “driving 34 in a 25 mph zone”, which would be almost 40% faster than the speed limit.
