Cole Dotson was passing by a local school last Sunday when he noticed that an American flag had fallen to the ground. Apparently Dotson did not hesitate and immediately pulled over and lifted the flag from the ground.
Fortunately, Cole's grandmother works for the school and came to help raise the flag to its proper position, taking a picture to capture the patriotic moment.
Cole's mother was quite proud and wrote, "The flag fell to the ground, he saw it, stopped and held it until someone from school could come and put it back up."
“Thank you all for the support! I didn’t intend to get recognized for what I did. But I am sure glad to see the support and respect for the flag. I love this flag and this country. God bless America,” Cole wrote to his supporters.
At the end of the day, we must all remember that it doesn't matter what your occupation is, where you live, or how old you are, the American flag is bigger than anything or anyone in this country. It is our job as American citizens to respect and uphold the integrity of what the flag means and Cole demonstrated that to all of us.
Cole plans to join the military this summer.

Yes...If the flag lays on the ground, it is supposed to be burned....
I've never heard that going back to the 50s or so but not saying it was not called for.

Care should be exercised in the handling of the flag, to protect it from becoming soiled or damaged. However, you are not required to destroy the flag if it touches the ground. As long as the flag remains suitable for display, even if washing or dry-cleaning (which is an acceptable practice) is required, the flag may continue to be displayed.
There still are young kids out there who love and believe in America.

I served 7 years in the military and I STILL thought that was right....
I guess it was because in the service, it was drilled into us to never let the flag touch the ground....

Just touching the ground is disrespectful, but if it’s not permanently soiled or torn, it’s fine.
Basic flag etiquette was NEVER taught in any of my schooling from 1965-1978. I was taught it in the Boy Scouts. I guess I shouldn’t be shocked that adults don’t “get it.”

At any rate we learned love and regard for the American flag. In grade school I remember viewing a film on the history of the flag and the stars and stripes.
