I am mystified too. I have had very short hair (think Judith Dench style) for 25yrs. I have only ever gotten compliments and/or requests for the name of my hair stylist.
I have never been called names or been mistaken for a man. I also live in levis and t-shirts.

Dang, I’m 76 and wear my hair long in an updo, in a chignon in back with curls on top, (mainly because my hair is balding and growing it long lets me style it to look like I have lots of hair and just came from the salon...easiest hairdo ever, with no perm required. I worked in an office most of my life and always wear makeup. Am I going to have to worry if I use the rest room in Target folks may decide I’m not a girlie girl but a guy in drag. Like a freeper mentioned above, will we have to “show our credentials” to use the facilities???
