To see color photographs of the good guys, check out the Roger Freeman Collection.

For a bit of a juxtaposition, here's some snippets of German troops in action.

I always find pictures/footage of German troops extremely eerie. We know who the good guys were. I knew my grandfathers, great-uncles, their friends. Solid, patriotic, decent, hardworking American men. Quiet, regular guys who stepped up, did a job, fought the good fight in the face of global chaos. The German troops are in a totally different realm...They served an evil cause, but they weren't necessarily evil men. Looking at picture of them marching by, you know some of them are diehard Nazis, but there is no way of knowing which ones, no way of knowing what any of them truly thought about Hitler and the Nazi party. Individually they fought to stay alive, but collectively their fight has to be condemned. Some bad, many good, all remembered as "Nazis" and necessarily relegated to the "shall not be honored" bin.
