So much for chivalry. Venmo, a peer-to-peer payment app owned by PayPal and popular with millennials, isn’t just letting 20-somethings split cab fares and utility bills — it’s turning guys into really stingy dates.

I tend to agree with you that the inviter pays.

I don’t understand the problem.

Seems like any person who is Strong Empowered and Independent
wouldn’t have a problem paying for things.

Could it be possible that there are girls who specialize in hustling guys for free meals?
Seems like that would be nigh impossible but you never know.

Is a bill asking to cover half the cost of the “post-action” cigarette considered bad etiquette?

OMG, I had a similar experience. It was 1958 at the Chicago Boys Club Teen night dance. He was tall, my age and wore his school letter jacket. I was dancing close to his chest when he said something funny and instead of laughing I drooled on his jacket. I have recently heard that he has passed away, so your post is very timely.

Been married for 45 years, so I have no clue about today’s dating scene.

That said, if I were a widower and resumed dating, if I asked her out, I’d pay.

I’d open the car door for her as well as all building doors. I’d pull out the chair to seat her at the restaurant, unless it was one of those fancy places with the speedy waiter who beats you to it.

If she has a hissy-fit, I’d politely tell her that she was invited out by a gentleman. If she would prefer a wuss, I’ll be glad to take her home. I consider the price of dinner and/or a movie to be payment for her time & conversation. If anything more than that can be obtained for that minimal investment, then she is too ‘cheap’ for me.

Thankfully, if I were in that situation, anyone I’d date is probably of my generation and understands the ground rules for behavior between gentlemen & ladies.

Dating should be romance! Speed dating, speed copulating is for animals in rut, not sentient human beings.

Thankfully, Mrs BN probably will outlive me by a decade or more, so I practice my “dating skills” on her!

Taking a date to a Sheetz is a guarantee of a one-date relationship.

Not necessarily. My wife was actually impressed with me as a guy who knew how to get value for his money.

We are still married more than 32 years later.
