So, it’s offensive to call a WHITE woman who has been proven to have absolutely no Indian ancestry “Pocahontas”. And why would that be?

I’m offended that she spent so long lying about her ancestry in order to gain an advantage at the expense of real Indians.

And, I still think “fauxcahontas” is better and I wish Trump would use that instead.

“faux” is great when written. But when spoken the listener needs to be familiar with it or they’ll hear “Focahontas” which doesn’t mean anything.

It was offensive to Pocahontas. She was a genuinely pivotal figure in early American history. She is also an ancestor many prominent Virginia families with the surnames of Byrd, Rolfe and Bolling, among others.
