Is a typical coyote a danger to a full-grown man?

Any wild animal is a danger to a full grown man IMHO. Perhaps not frequently fatal but a coyote defending it’s young might leave some pretty nasty bite wounds.

Generally no, but it depends how hungry it is. Or if it has rabies be prepared to get lunged at. But wouldn't you do what this man did if it were YOUR dog? I sure would. Heck, I'd do it for ANY dog not just my own.

When they hunt in packs, yes they can be dangerous to a full-grown man. In 77 I was trapping in Kramer, LA. I got a weird feeling, and about 10 coydogs were tracking me. I shot the alpha-male in the rump with my 22lr, and they ran off. The other coydogs killed the alpha male, and ate him.

These animals are not stupid, when one of the females is in heat she will run through a neighborhood to lure male dogs into the woods where the pack would attack and eat him.

They vary quite a bit in size. From small dog size up to around the size of a German Shepherd. Sometimes they are in packs around here. A solitary small one probably isn't worth worrying about.

In general they are afraid of adults, probably because they are pretty smart and about once a year around here you see a coyote pelt hanging on somebody's porch.

Sometimes they are less afraid, and a large adult coyote can kill a good sized dog. I wouldn't want to tangle with one unless I had at least a pitchfork or a knife, a shotgun works much better.

Individual coyotes will not attack a full grown man because we are too large. Packs will occasionally attack a man, particularly if he wanders too close to a den with pups.

But with any predator never turn your back on one.

In Ohio the Coyote is considered a nuisance animal and can be hunted year round. So if it is legal to fire a weapon where you live in Ohio you can shoot one. Your state maybe different.

I have had several in my yard but have never been able to get my rifle in time to take a shot. The just seem to pass through my yard on their way somewhere else. Trouble is my wife objects to my keeping my rifle handy.

They may attack people - small packs of coyotes have attacked people on walking paths in early morning hours

If you're not armed or have a good stick one can cut you up pretty good.

3 can take you down and feed on you.

I was thinking animal self defense classes would probably be popular. At a yellow belt, you could learn how to defend yourself against animals like geese or small dogs, but at black belt you could learn self defense techniques against enemies like crocodiles or even medium sized bears.

Not unless cornered. Small dogs and cats beware. They are prime pickings for the yotes.

No but they love small dog’s and house cats. Allowing either to run lose or unprotected in coyote country is just begging to have them turned into yote scat.

Not likely to go after a man if alone, but when in a small pack, it could be very deadly. Even a loner can be very dangerous.
