I think he saw Bolshevism more as a convenient way to gain the kind of power that Ivan had, rather than him being very much an ideological Marxist-Leninist.

No argument especially since Stalin spent a large amount of time and effort in KILLING the true believers. Trotsky went to Mexico, not far enough!

Stalin HATED anyone from Leningrad, saw them as a threat. He had most of the people who ran Leningrad during the Siege, shot after the war.
