It really IS that simple.
People who can’t do this much for a cat have no business owning one.

I’ve heard that declawing is equivalent to cutting one’s finger off at the knuckle. I agree - it is barbaric.

We took in 2 strays at different times, who had been declawed, in their previous lives.
I don’t recall their behavior being any different than the cats who still had their claws; in terms of litterbox use, etc.
I would never have a cat declawed b/c I think it is to cruel.

Well, now that the antis have succeeded in pressuring the Ringling Bros Circus with their elephants, they’ll continue to intrude on things that are not their business.

Given that vets consider the nail/claw as part of a toe digit, especially on animals that have nonretractable claws like, dogs and rabbits,
I,wouldnt do it unless it was damaged or,infected and needed to be taken off and recommended by the vet as well.
But I think this is over reach by the government. Just another example out of many, many, many examples today.

This is a prime example,of govt punting on the very serious issues ofthe day, like their budgets and spending, and deliberately messing around in areas it has no business in dictating.

Don’t even want to count how many cats we’ve had over the years. I suppose the last three or four we could have left where someone abandoned them right after they were born but we discovered them and brought them home instead. They all get neutered and front claws removed as soon as they are old enough. All have lived to ripe old age and have been well cared for. My life, my cats, my house and my choice. And, by the way, I also spank my grandchildren with a wooden spoon when they misbehave.

I’ll have to ask my current cat. She seems to have an opinion about everything, particularly when she goes in the garage and finds a lizard has invaded her territory or when I won’t let her sit on my computer keyboard and chase the cursor around the screen.

Yet people have no problem ripping their insides out just to keep them going into heat or having kittens.

This will either have car owners who want declawed cats to go out of state or they'll refuse to adopt. Or they'll go to some back alley quack. Cats will pay the price. This almost reminds me of the arguments the pro abortion crowd made 50 years ago.

"Im not saying it should be made illegal but having your cat declawed is a pretty rotten thing to do."
Not to mention the fact that they can't defend themselves without claws.

I agree. Declawing causes all sorts of phantom pain, foot arthritis, etc. It's equivalent to taking off your finger up to the first joint. I keep my cats' claws trimmed, they have several choices of scratching post (which they really use) and they long ago were trained not to scratch furniture. It also helps if your upholstery is tightly woven and not loosely woven, which seem to be a cat scratching magnet. Never had any noticeable cat scratch damage in my home, nor anything shredded.
BTW FReepers----My kitten Zizu just got re-tested for FeLV/FIV and bartonella, and she is NEGATIVE!!! Now she can gradually leave her quarantine ward (AKA, my kitchen). AND, she is now a whopping 6 whole lbs., up from the bony 4.2 lbs. when I first got her a month ago. Gone are the hip bones and sparse rough coat--now she is muscular, sleek, and shiny. And full of devilment, fueled by kitten energy.

So you are brutal, abusive, cruel, and barbaric... and proud of it. Have you considered joining ISIS? You’d fit right in.
To: thoughtomator
Give it a rest. Your self-righteousness here needs to be...de-CLAWED!
