Trump Fans Float Rand Paul As Their Top VP Pick

Now that Donald Trump’s two main opponents are out of the way, the conversation is shifting to who his running mate will be. And, as ever, the good people of Reddit have it all figured out.

Supporters of Donald Trump launched into a massive discussion on the Donald Trump subreddit, /r/the_donald, after Tuesday’s primary. And a Vocativ analysis of the over 4,300 comments reveals that Trump fans are most ready for joint ticket with Rand Paul.

Users participating in the thread, which was tagged as a serious discussion, mentioned Rand Paul more than any other potential candidate, a total of 295 times. Users cited his ability to court the Libertarian electorate, and his foreign policy views as key reasons.

He is a complete moron. He would make a great Ambassador to Greenland.

I’d like it if Trump picked Rand Paul or someone else of a libertarian bent.

The one VP choice I could not stomach would be Chris Christie. If Trump picks Christie, I would not vote for the Republican ticket. (I’d either go third party or, unhappily, just sit out the election.)

I don’t know everyone who uses the name ‘libertarian’ to be sure.

You may have a point but when it comes to going at it with the GOP Establishment that tried to take out Trump, the Paul supporters have the scars to prove it and legitimate reason to be glad Trump vanquished their enemy, at least for now.

I can confirm that firsthand having been a delegate to state, CD, and county conventions in 2012 and 2014.

That was a big part of my argument to consider the usefulness of Trump to smash an establishment which was committed to roadblocking everything not of their own design.

Unfortunately this argument was not widely well received. Some agreed, I’d say maybe 1 in 3 or 4. The rest have not and have gone the self-marginalization route of the LP, at least for now.

“This pick would shore up the large libertarian contingent.”

What do you think Trump is? Other than border security, Trump is basically a libertarian.

Trump instead needs a solid conservative to make sure the base comes out in November.

Paul would be acceptable for me. Better than Rubio, Kasich, Cruz or Carson.

Rand Paul would be a good choice. Definitely in my top 5.

He knows the system, has successfully fought the system, and has retained some semblance of respect amongst his colleagues unlike Sen. Cruz. He also brings in a lot of younger folks, and would be bringing in his horde of operatives which is no small feat: they’re tough and they’re fighters.

If you survey folks based on their political views you’ll find that a plurality are neither conservative nor liberal, but of a more libertarian bent.

A better move would be Ru Paul. That would take the LGBTQ question off the table as well as the race issue. And best off all it would make Hillary’s head explode. /SARC

Newt would be excellent. I sincerely regret my opposition to him in 2008. It’s haunted me ever since.

This pick would shore up the large libertarian contingent

And draw in the Bernie demographic when he fails to catch Hillary. Strategically not a bad choice.

If wanting to pick a VP to win the election... Then pick someone that will let Trump be Trump.

No, Rand Paul is very confused on what he believes and is too young.

Why does everyone like Allen West?

I don't see anything particularly noteworthy.

That was my question also.

I think many people on FR are enamored with Black, Conservative, military men.

I don't see him bringing anything to the ticket.

That is why the Libertarian Party never became a serious Party!

Trump is a perfect candidate for them in regards to non-intervention and attacking the Establishment.

I know that Ron Paul's website endorsed Trump.
