Got to get that last minute shopping in...
Last summer I was on a Crystal Cruise in the Mediterranean. At two different ports of call this happened - passengers who were late getting back and delayed the ship’s departure. Twice. And both times they were found, returning late with tons of shopping bags.
Some people just think rules don’t apply to them I guess.
Came very close to happening to me once. Made it by less than a minute. My own fault. I knew when I was supposed to be back and cut it too fine and then things didn’t go smoothly. Time and tide waits for no man.
My wife and I left the kids on an Alaskan glacier while we sailed away a couple of years ago. Damn cruise line returned them to us. ;)
“Der’s a boat dat’s leaving sooooon for New Yooorrk.”
“Time, tide, and formation wait for no man.”
Miss ship’s movement in the Navy and find yourself at Captain’s Mast...at minimum.
The one time I went on a cruise, the ship personnel made it very clear that the ship does not delay departure for anyone.
There was a close call when the ship pulled into a Mexican port. The ship was getting ready to go—almost all of the boarding stuff (carpets, ramps, ropes) had been stowed, with just one small carpet left for that last passenger. He finally arrived about a minute before scheduled departure. The boarding personnel rushed the man aboard, grabbed the last carpet, slammed the door, and the ship started moving away from the dock.
If you go on a cruise, take the departure time seriously! It’s not that hard to be back half an hour ahead, with time to check back in and meander back to your cabin and rest for a bit before the ship sails.
This was a Carnival cruise.
This is my guilty pleasure. Sitting on my balcony as the ship prepares to leave and watching the stragglers rush down the dock at the last minute. Most do make it.
She was on a bus tour in Ireland with a bunch of other old bats. Tour bus made the first stop of the day with the driver saying what time they should get back. Naturally they were all back on time except for one woman who came in 1/2 an hour later. The woman was told by the driver to try and get back on time because they had a schedule to keep. Woman said sorry.
Next tour stop same thing - the same woman was again 1/2 hour late getting back. At this point the driver told her that she was making everyone miss out on opportunities because they were all sitting there waiting for her and if she were late again he'd simply leave her behind. She just laughed and got back on the bus.
Third stop same woman late again. The driver waited 5 miuntes and drove off.
The woman must have been a democrat.
Yahoo.com acts as if this is “real news”. As you can see from the posts here, it happens quite often — like every multi-stop cruise. Some people don’t get out much I guess.
Time means nothing to a women when shopping.....
The smart thing to do was to wait, and if she didn’t get back, the husband should have got back aboard and sailed with the kids, and she could get a ticket home.
As it was, there was an uncle aboard. A lot of hoopla over a woman who just couldn’t find it in herself to get back in time for whatever reason.
In the Navy, I recall the ship would blow a whistle twice, once when there was a short time before sailing (can’t rememberexactly, but I think this is what they did) and once more about five minutes before sailing.
And when the whistle would go on those carriers, you could hear it miles and miles away!
Bet it was the best vacation those kids had
I don’t know how many here watched the PBS Britcom Keeping Up Appearances. There was an episode where Hyacinth Bucket
(pronounced Bouquet) and her husband Richard were going on a cruise on the QE 2. She took them to the wrong dock and they and they’re dozen or so pieces of luggage missed the boat.
Very funny.
Just another emotion ridden news story, non story to get people to look at advertising.
So what?
In a couple years, the wife will be asking: “How come you never take me anywhere?”
Especially since the children were chained to the floor in the engine room until they reached port again. They received only one meal a day, a bowl of steam.
The wife was selfish, the husband was stupid.
Tough. The boat’s departure was scheduled. Her fault. The cruise line had no obligation to stop, return and pick her up. Tough cookies, lady.
