Delegates at the convention know what's going on before the actual vote.

You speak from experience, no doubt. Which contested or close convention did you attend? 1952?

No, but I believe my father was. And anyway it’s not only human nature it’s politics itself to discuss and form your core group of supporters in advance. Contested conventions worked much better before 24/7 news. The people will not back a candidate that wins close to 35 states and the popular vote these days. They’ll watch it unravel on TV and stay home.
